Measurement of Light Yield, Timing and Radiation Damage and Recovery of Common Plastic Scintillators

PEN and PET (polyethylene naphthalate teraphthalate) are common plastics used for drink bottles plastic food containers. They also good scintillators. Their ubiquity has made them of interest high energy physics applications, as generally scintillators can be very expensive. However, detailed studies on the performance not yet been performed. At various tests, we measured light yield timing properties with Fermilab CERN test beams. We irradiated several samples to varying gamma doses investigated their recovery mechanisms. Here report measurements performed over past few years in order characterize scintillation discuss possible future implementations.
